I have practiced insurance and risk for 40 years and I am an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London UK. 


Most of this time was spent servicing the unique needs of corporate clients.


I have been involved with the placement and servicing of global insurance programmes and placements for multi-national companies for over 18 years. 


I gained international insurance experience by working in the U.K. and mainland Europe.


I became an accredited Lloyds underwriter for casualty lines cover. 


I am a Chartered Insurance Practitioner which entitles me to practice insurance globally and affords me international accreditation.


I studied law and Business Risk Management at UNISA and the University of Cape Town.

Stefan Swanepoel

Stefan Swanepoel is the principal consultant for Directrix Risk Services.


He is a qualified actuary and corporate risk manager with more than 22 years’ experience in actuarial consulting with specific emphasis on pre-loss risk management and risk financing. 


His team handles all aspects related to risk pricing, structuring, risk analytics and reporting and governance.

ERM Practice Head for Aon's Global Risk Consulting business, Director of TheRiskTower, Chief Risk Advisor for the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA), Group Chief Risk Officer for AECI Limited, Head of Risk for Rand Refinery, and ERM consultant for Marsh.


Current Airmic (Association of Insurance and Risk Managers in Industry and Commerce) ERM Steering Group Executive member and ERM Special Interest Group lead for the Institute of Risk Management UK. 


Past Chairman of the IRMSA Risk Intelligence Committee which informs the risk fraternity and corporate South Africa about internal and external risks affecting the country. 


Wrote and presented the first three IRMSA South African Risk reports with two world-renowned strategic futurists and scenario planners from Mind of a Fox, Clem Sunter and Chantell Ilbury.


Member of the Risk Africa Magazine and RISQ Magazine Editorial Boards. 


Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Stellenbosch, specialising in Political and Economic Risk, International Relations, Political Economy and Emerging Markets Risks.
